Superfluid transition in a correlated defect network

چکیده
Motivated by recent experiments on the possible supersolid behavior of 4He solids at low temperature, we consider a model of superfluidity in a defected solid containing a system spanning network of correlated linear dislocations, or planar grain boundaries. Using arguments based on the Harris criterion, as well as numerical simulations, we find that such correlated quenched disorder shifts the familiar superfluid lambda transition to a new disordered universality class in which the correlation length exponent ν 1. This results in the temperature derivatives for the superfluid density dρs/dT and for the heat capacity dc/dT remaining finite at the transition Tc, and thus a less singular transition, profoundly different from the usual lambda transition.

Excitations in correlated superfluids near a continuous transition into a supersolid.
We study a superfluid on a lattice close to a transition into a supersolid phase and show that a uniform superflow in the homogeneous superfluid can drive the roton gap to zero. This leads to supersolid order around the vortex core in the superfluid, with the size of the modulated pattern around the core being related to the bulk superfluid density and roton gap. We also study the electronic tu...

Many direct parallels connect superfluid 3 He with the field theories describing the physical vacuum, gauge fields and elementary fermions. Superfluid 3 He exhibits a variety of topological defects which can be detected with single-defect sensitivity. Modern scenarios of defect-mediated baryogenesis can be simulated by the interaction of the 3 He vortices and domain walls with fermionic quasipa...
متن کاملSUPERFLUID He: A LABORATORY MODEL SYSTEM FOR QUANTUM FIELD THEORY∗
The early Universe is believed to have undergone a sequence of rapid phase transitions. Defect formation in these transitions has been suggested as one possible source for the anisotropy in the cosmic background radiation and the large-scale structure in the distribution of visible mass. So far controlled laboratory experiments have not been performed on homogeneous second order phase transitio...

In this work, the formation of oxygen-vacancy defect in 3d metals-doped TiO2 anatase and rutile structures is first investigated. The systematic calculations of formation energy, crystalline stability, band structure and density of state (DOS) of TiO2 samples of anatase and rutile doped with 3d transition metals with and without oxygen defect is done using FHI-aims as a software package based o...
